Aloes

Used in : Song Of Songs Oil, Messiah's Fragrance

Song 4:13-14 "Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with choice fruits, henna with nard plants, Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all the trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices.

“All Thy garments are {fragrant with} myrrh and aloes {and} cassia...” Ps 45:8a

"And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Yeshua by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight" John 19:39

Aloes is one of the fragrances in the bride’s garden. It is also one of the fragrances that exudes from the garment of the Messiah according to the "Wedding-Psalm".

The great quantity of myrrh and aloes used in preparing Yeshua’s body for burial was indicative of respect and reverence. Many botanists believe that aloes was derived from sandalwood, one of the oldest incenses known to man. Its 4 000 year history includes use as carved wood as well as scented oil. In the time of David and Solomon, sandalwood was apparently used in the making of wooden instruments. Harps and lyres were but two of the instruments used in continual worship unto the Lord. We can thus see aloes’ connection to worship in the natural but also spiritually speaking, we have been called to be “living instruments”.

“I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, {which is} your spiritual service of worship.” Rom 12:1

This fragrance reminds us to make a llifestyle of worshipping and honoring God.

The documenting of biblical plants and aromatics down through the ages has been performed ever since biblical times. The composers of the Talmud recorded the plants and materials used in producing the various spices of the Bible. Many botanists believe that Aloes was derived from sandalwood, one of the oldest incenses known to man.

Sandalwood is high in sesquiterpenes and has been studied for its ability to oxygenate the brain.
